What you can do to help prepare for your first Mortgage Advisor meeting

You’ve seen the house or flat that you’d like to turn into your next home. You’ve decided that you want it but you don’t know quite how you’re going to get it. You have some savings put aside but you don’t understand how mortgages work and what you need to do to get one. You think you need help from a mortgage advisor.

At the initial meeting, your dedicated mortgage advisor will review your financial situation, they will find out more about you and your financial needs, they will explain the process to you and they will answer any questions that you have. They will also need to see evidence as proof of your circumstances. To help make your home purchase closer to being a reality, it can help if you are organised before the initial meeting.

Gather together all documentation that you need before your meeting – a list of documentation potentially needed is given below. Have it available to hand at the meeting – it will make it easier for you to answer the questions asked by our mortgage advisor. Having all the information in one place, will also give you a better understanding of your own financial situation before you meet with our mortgage advisor.

Once you’ve gathered together all of the evidence that you need, make a list of questions that you would like answered. This will help you at the meeting as it will help organise your thoughts. Think of it as a checklist or task list where items can be crossed off as they are addressed during the meeting.

Examples of the information that your mortgage advisor will need to see is as follows:

Bank Statements – most recent three months
Payslips (if employed) – last three months
P60 – most recent
Business Accounts (if self-employed) – last two years of accounts
Proof of Identity – current passport or driving licence
Proof of Address – most recent utility bill
